Toastmasters Awards Luncheon

Matt was awarded the Outstanding Service Award for VP of Membership at the Toastmasters District 25 Spring 2009 Conference Awards Luncheon this weekend.

Curtis, a co-worker at AAFES (pictured in the 3rd photo with Matt), nominated Matt. You will find below his nomination verbiage. Matt’s introduction at the awards ceremony was taken from this.

“I personally recruited Matt from my former employer in District 50 where we were both active in TOASTMASTERS. I knew he would immediately join and take on responsibilities in AAFES # 2209. During his tenure, we have seen the greatest influx of new members and general interest in TOASTMASTERS that many have seen around here in years. In fact, Matt has been searching out former TOASTMASTERS members in the building and challenging them to get back in the game! Anyone who meets Matt knows immediately that a great man is interested in seeing them become more confident and accomplished speakers. He is a mentor with great enthusiasm and a winning personality. He challenges all of us to become better communicators. He is also great at keeping us all focused on the PROPER TOASTMASTERS WAY OF DOING THINGS. He holds a wealth of information for a young family man with 3 kids at home. When Matt speaks at meetings or EC meetings, we all listen! He has the perfect personality for his current role. He has been at AAFES less than a year and most of the building seems to know who he is. I am personally very proud of Matt and the job he is doing for AAFES #2209. He well deserves recognition for setting our membership on FIRE!! We started with 13 members and are currently...as I write this...looking at more than doubling that number this year!!”

For those of you who might not know, Toastmasters is a nonprofit organization offering a proven – and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills. Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. www.toastmasters.org
